Job summary

Owen Companies in Jessup, MD is seeking a Shop Service Technician to provide in-shop diagnostics, service, and repairs on hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. The role supports new, used, rental, and customer-owned equipment, minimizing downtime and ensuring OEM standards are met.

You will work independently in a heavy equipment shop, performing diagnostics, repair planning, parts sourcing, and documentation while maintaining strong customer relationships and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair; environmental, construction, vocational truck, or similar equipment experience preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service documentation.
• Experience performing equipment service and working independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with basic computer functions for service reporting, documentation, and communication.
• Must possess a personal set of hand tools and willingness to expand tool inventory as needed.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license. Ensure all repairs and service activities meet company quality and safety expectations.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems.
• Assemble, install, and integrate electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components, including wiring of electrical panels and system connections.
• Develop and execute repair plans, including sequencing, parts identification, and component-level repairs to restore equipment to OEM specifications.
• Perform diagnostics, service, and repairs across all major equipment systems within the shop, including remote troubleshooting support as requested.
• Provide warranty support by evaluating and validating claims, coordinating with OEM, and submitting detailed service documentation.
• Communicate repair status, findings, and recommendations clearly while maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer service.

Job Details: Job Location: Blaze - Maryland - Jessup, MD 20794, Position Type: Full Time, Job Shift: Day, POSITION SUMMARY

The Shop Service Technician is responsible for providing in-shop technical support, diagnostics, service, and repairs for a diverse portfolio of equipment. This includes HPM (Hydraulic Performance Machines) foundation drilling equipment, Elliott Utility Equipment, as well as Vactor and TRUVAC environmental infrastructure equipment. This role combines strong mechanical and technical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities to ensure equipment is serviced safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company and OEM standards. Additionally, this position supports new, used, rental, and customer-owned equipment by minimizing downtime, delivering high-quality repairs, and maintaining strong customer relationships. The Shop Service Technician is expected to operate independently and adapt to changing shop priorities within a heavy equipment service environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Equipment Diagnostics & Repair

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE ENVIRONMENT

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work performed in a shop environment with exposure to temperature extremes, noise, and heavy equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, including the proper use of PPE.

SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS

• All work is performed at the Blaze Equipment shop in Jessup, MD. On occasion, the Shop Service Technician may be asked to assist the Road Service Technician.
• Standard Monday-Friday schedule with flexibility required to meet customer demand.
• Occasional extended hours or weekend work may be required.
