POSITION SUMMARYThe Shop Service Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, reconditioning, and maintenance on equipment in the shop, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company and manufacturer standards. This role performs hands-on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diagnostic work under the direction of the Service Manager, taking ownership of workmanship, productivity, and the timely completion of assigned repairs. The Shop Service Technician documents labor and parts accurately on work orders, performs required inspections and testing, and verifies that equipment is repaired correctly before it is returned to service. This position works closely with the Service Manager, fellow technicians, and the Parts department to complete repairs, resolve technical issues, and deliver a consistently high level of workmanship and customer satisfaction.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESEquipment Diagnostics, Repair & MaintenancePerform equipment diagnostics, repairs, reconditioning, preventive maintenance, and new equipment setup across a range of equipment.Complete assigned repairs in the priority order established by the Service Manager, based on customer requirements, workload, and parts availability.Manage assigned workload to maintain productivity, repair quality, and timely work order completion, communicating delays or additional repair needs to the Service Manager.Complete repairs, inspections, testing, labor and parts documentation in accordance with company, manufacturer, customer, billing, and warranty requirements.Perform quality work the first time to reduce rework, control costs, and support overall shop efficiency.Work Order DocumentationComplete work orders accurately and thoroughly, documenting parts, labor, materials, repair notes, and supporting information.Confirm that required repairs, inspections, and testing have been completed before submitting equipment to the Service Manager for release.Communication & TeamworkRepresent the company professionally in any customer or vendor interactions.Communicate repair status, findings, and additional repair needs clearly to the Service Manager to support the timely completion of repairs.Escalate equipment issues, warranty concerns, or unexpected repair findings to the Service Manager.Training & Skill DevelopmentContinuously develop technical skills to improve skillset, productivity, repair quality, and diagnostic ability.Participate in company and OEM technical and product training offerings.Safety, Organization & Policy ComplianceMaintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.Follow company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.Properly use personal protective equipment, tools, and safe work practices at all times.Contribute to a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training and relevant manufacturer, ASE, or industry certifications preferred.Two to five years of equipment service, repair, or maintenance experience; experience with the equipment lines serviced preferred.Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with a commitment to repair quality, productivity, and timely equipment turnaround.Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENTWork performed in a shop service environment with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, and varying weather conditions.Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and actively perform physical repair work in the service shop for extended periods.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required.TRAVEL AND SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONSOccasional travel may be required for training or field service support.Standard Monday–Friday schedule with flexibility required to meet peak periods or business needs.Occasional extended hours or weekend work may be required.
