GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Shop Mechanics are responsible for repairing and maintaining various types of heavy construction equipment, primarily servicing and repairing rental equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment in compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations and government guidelines • Preform general maintenance of shop tools, equipment, and specialized attachments • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas by hand or by use of a shop forklift. • Load/unload trucks picking up or delivering supplies. • General assembly work that may require operating automated machinery and various power/hand tools. • Inspect all parts and equipment in order to properly report defective material or questionable component conditions to management. • Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace and complete all required repairs on heavy equipment and specialized attachments • Responsible for ensuring the cosmetic appearance meets company requirements upon completion of repair(s) to heavy equipment and specialized attachments • Ensure all parts and materials not used are returned to parts inventory as per company guidelines • Maintain complete and detailed working records for time, parts, supplies and outside purchase for repairs. • Perform diagnostic inspections and annual certifications as directed. • Assist Shop Foreman with special projects and cover for multiple positions when staffing levels are low/production or operating demands are accelerated • Flag and spot team members when equipment is being moved. • May be required to weld, cut, paint, and/or grind various raw building materials. • Observe and follow all company safety rules and policies • Perform other duties as requested • Ability to work overtime when assigned location has an increased work scope

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE • High School diploma or equivalent • Vocational or mechanical training preferred • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in mechanically diagnosing, repairing and maintaining various types of construction equipment; vocational training may be considered in lieu of experience • Valid Driver’s License required • Must provide own “hand” tools
TECHNICAL SKILLS • Ability to follow directions, prioritize and multi-task • Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals. • Ability to read schematics (both hydraulic and electrical) • Strong understanding of DOT and OSHA guidelines. • Capable of safely operating basic hand tools, hydraulic lifts, dollies, and pallet jacks, excavators, compactors, boom trucks, aerial lifts and various other equipment types. • Ability to adhere to and meet deadlines
