Shop Mechanic III Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Shop Mechanic III is to conduct routine maintenance, service, and repair of all Sterling Equipment Leasing (SEL) equipment, including but not limited to, pick-up trucks, excavators, wheel-loaders, compact track loaders, semi-trucks, trailers, diesel pick-up trucks, and various equipment attachments and accessories at a designated SEL facility.
Essential Functions of Shop Mechanic III
- Collaborate with the Fleet Maintenance Manager to ensure timely, effective, and efficient service.
- Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions to stay current with rapidly changing technology.
- Complete required Preventative Maintenance according to the equipment's PM Schedule.
- Maintain up-to-date records including supplies, parts, and tool inventory, and equipment maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and organized working area.
- Perform extensive fabrication on miscellaneous equipment to reduce downtime.
- Provide diagnosis to optimize shop capabilities and identify trends.
- Complete quality-controlled inspections on equipment to ensure repairs are performed timely and reliably.
- Diagnose and repair complex malfunctions on fleet equipment.
- Use specialized diagnostic and power tools to complete maintenance tasks.
- Repair damaged frames, and replace differentials, drive shafts, front end, and steering mechanisms.
- Rebuild or replace powertrain components, such as engines and transmissions.
- Ensure timely turnaround on specialized equipment to maximize utilization.
- Support Sterling's vision, mission, policies, and procedures.
- Work safely, following all safety protocols and wearing PPE as required.
- Keep workspace clean following 5S standards and safety guidelines.
- Follow all operating, cleaning, and safety procedures for equipment and machinery.
- Report safety incidents or machinery failures immediately.
- Cross-train within the team and other departments as needed.
- Manage check-in/out system for all equipment.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 6 years of experience with heavy equipment repairs, including diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
- Class A CDL with air brake endorsement preferred, but training can be provided.
- OSHA 10 Certification preferred, but training can be provided.
- CPR / First Aid Certification preferred, but training can be provided.
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Extensive heavy-duty mechanic tools.

Pay rate: $30 - $37 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
