About The Role

The Shop Manager at Valor Contracting will oversee shop and yard personnel, perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment, manage inventory, and support construction teams on-site. The role involves hands-on tasks such as equipment repairs, organizing materials, and ensuring safety and efficiency.

Position Summary

The Shop Manager/Mechanic will oversee shop operations, perform equipment inspections and maintenance, manage inventory, and provide site support. The ideal candidate has a background in automotive or diesel mechanics, excellent organizational skills, and troubleshooting expertise.

Position Logistics

• Work Environment: On-Site
• Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday | 7 am - 5 pm
• Work Type: Full Time (40 hours/week)

Position Responsibilities

• Supervise and support shop and yard personnel, assist with equipment repairs, ensure smooth operations.
• Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on construction machinery, trucks, and vehicles.
• Manage maintenance schedules, prioritize repairs, coordinate with external repair shops.
• Coordinate equipment logistics, track equipment status, and maintain records.
• Perform on-site diagnostics and repairs using the service truck.
• Control inventory of parts, tools, and supplies.
• Enforce safety regulations and maintain a safe work environment.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and equipment usage.
• Organize warehouse and job site materials for efficiency.
• Support construction teams on-site, troubleshoot, and repair equipment.
• Communicate with superintendents, project managers, and staff about equipment needs.
• Mentor and train junior mechanics or field staff.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Shop Manager, Mechanic, or similar role.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification preferred.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems; experience with small engines and construction equipment.
• Proficient in diagnostic tools and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and inventory management software.
• Welding experience is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL and forklift/MEWP certifications are a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical tasks.
