Job summary

Reframe Systems Inc in Andover, MA, is seeking a Mechanical Shop & Lab Manager to own FAB1's machine shop, a fully equipped space for mills, lathes, laser cutters, welding, and 3D printers. This hands-on, full-time role focuses on keeping equipment ready, training staff, and enabling rapid prototyping across the company.

You will establish safety standards, manage tooling and consumables, and serve as the go-to resource for engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on experience in a machine shop or fab setting.
• Deep knowledge of mills, lathes, laser cutters, welding, and 3D printing.
• Experience building training programs and safety procedures.
• Highly organized with ability to create structure in open spaces.
• Able to autonomously manage a space and set safety/access boundaries.
• Strong communicator able to set boundaries without bottlenecks.

Responsibilities

• Own the space: accountable for machine shop layout, organization, and daily operations.
• Maintain equipment: preventive maintenance, repairs, and vendor relations.
• Manage tooling and consumables: inventory tracking and purchasing decisions.
• Formalize training and access: build structured trainings and define access levels.
• Set safety standards: PPE, procedures, audits, and compliance.
• Make the shop accessible: support engineers and first-timers to use space.
• Support projects: prototype fabrication and fixture building when possible.
