Job summary

Reframe Systems Inc. seeks a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to join FAB1, our first full-scale microfactory in Billerica, MA this fall. You will design, model, build, test, and refine mechanical systems, working across workcells, fixturing, and production infrastructure that keep the factory running.

This hands-on role places you in the shop with real-time CAD to prototyping work. You’ll gain exposure to robotics integration and factory operations while rotating across projects and collaborating

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; junior or senior standing preferred.
• Solid CAD skills with quick sketch-to-CAD-to-prototype iteration.
• Comfortable operating shop tools and equipment — mills, lathes, laser cutters, welding, 3D printing, hand and power tools.
• Fast learner who can pick up new tools, processes, and project context with minimal ramp-up.
• Bias toward action: prefer building rough prototypes and learning from them over perfecting on paper.
• Strong communicator who works well in a team and can take direction from multiple engineers.
• Available for a full-time, semester-length co-op in Billerica, MA this fall.

Responsibilities

• Design and Iterate Fast: tackle real mechanical design problems across FAB1 projects and move from concept to CAD to prototype.
• Build What You Design: fabricate and assemble your prototypes and production hardware using shop equipment.
• Rotate Across Projects: work across multiple active projects, quickly gaining context and contributing wherever needed.
• Test and Improve: validate designs on the shop floor, troubleshoot issues, and iterate toward production-ready results.
• Support Documentation: produce clear CAD models and basic drawings that teammates or vendors can build from.
• Learn the Full Stack: gain exposure to how mechanical design connects to robotics, automation, and factory operations.
