Metro Safety & Fire, Inc. seeks a full-time Shop Technician - Cylinder Testing in Portland, OR.

The role supports field service and front office by maintaining our fire extinguisher pool, stocking tested cylinders, and performing service for walk-in clients. You will follow manufacturer specifications and NFPA 10, use Inspection Software and Microsoft Office to forecast demand, complete the Portland FIT training in 12 weeks, and progress toward ICC Portable Fire Extinguisher Technician

Qualifications

• Warranty-compliant extinguisher servicing to manufacturer specs and NFPA 10.
• Willingness to complete Portland FIT training in 12 weeks and pursue ICC certification within 1–2 years.
• Computer literacy required for inventory forecasting and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Support field service and front-office teams by stocking tested cylinders and maintaining inventory.
• Perform fire extinguisher servicing per standards and manufacturer specifications.
• Present and conduct in-house Fire Extinguisher Training Course.

Shop Technician - Cylinder Testing (FT)

Metro Safety & Fire, Inc. has an immediate opening in our service shop. The cylinder/shop technician provides support to the field service and front office teams by keeping our fire extinguisher pool stocked with tested cylinders, maintaining the fire equipment inventory, and providing fire extinguisher service for walk-in clients. We have the training program – we need the right person to join us in this busy production role.

Job Description:

• This role is part of our back-office support team, the backbone of the company.
• Our shop technician is a compliance-focused service individual specializing in servicing fire extinguishers to manufacturer specifications and NFPA 10 standard.
• Uses Inspection Software and Microsoft Office to forecast production demand and composition (computer literacy required).
• Will be responsible for earning and maintaining their Portland FIT (in 12 weeks), and eventually an ICC Certified Portable Fire Extinguisher Technician (1-2 years).
• Teach/present our in-house Fire Extinguisher Training Course.

Physical Fitness:

• The Shop Technician is a physical role that frequently lifts/carries and services 10-30lb cylinders, and infrequently 50+lbs for larger extinguishers throughout the day. Must be comfortable standing at a workbench for production hours and working with hand tools.

Wage:

Hire at $20.00/hour, increases over 2-3 years of training up to $32.00/hour.
