Job summary

CraneWorks in Houston, TX is seeking a Shop Crane Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain mobile cranes at the shop or on site. The role reports to the Service Manager and requires strong electrical/hydraulic skills and a focus on safety and quality.

Candidates should have 3+ years of crane tech experience, be able to read manuals and drawings, and be willing to travel for field work. Overtime and weekend work are common; a valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Mobile Crane Mechanic/Technician experience diagnosing defects.
• Ability to read and interpret manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Willingness to travel for field work and work overtime including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair and maintain crane equipment in shop and field settings.
• Test repaired equipment to ensure OEM specifications and safe operation.
• Maintain accurate work orders, time sheets, and expense reports.
• Demonstrate customer service and communication skills during service encounters.
• Work 40–80 hours weekly depending on needs; travel 1–4 days as required.

Job Summary: All Mechanics are responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of various crane equipment including mobile cranes (All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawler Cranes, Boom Trucks, knuckle booms, bucket trucks, etc.). Mechanic experience preferred with electrical and hydraulics.

Skills aptitude test will be required

Key Responsibilities:

• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Mobile Crane Mechanic/Technician that can operate and inspect cranes in order to diagnose defects.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of CANBUS, PAT, EKS, ECOS, LICCON, and Greer systems.
• Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges
• Reads and understands operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings
• Tests mechanical, electronic, electrical and hydraulic products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper operation and compliance with OEM specifications
• Prepares for jobs by checking parts and drawings for accuracy and completeness
• Capable of accomplishing tasks independently without direct supervision
• Maintain conformity to safety requirements, manufacturer procedures, and other regulations
• Properly fills out working reports, hours reports, time sheets, hours overviews, work orders, and expense reports
• Exceptional customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work overtime as well as on weekends is a plus. Travel is required periodically for 1 to 4-day intervals for field techs. Our shop technicians work anywhere from 40 to 50 hours a week depending on immediate needs and our field technicians work anywhere from 40 to 80 hours a week depending on customer needs.
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required for field technician positions

Preferred Qualifications:

History of working with different forms of mobile crane equipment, specifically Grove RT and TMS Cranes; Grove GMK European Cranes; Manitowoc, Liebherr, Terex, Palfinger, IMT, Cormach, National, Demag, Manitex, etc.
