Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, service, repair, and assemble small engines, machinery, and equipment.
• Maintain, clean, and organize tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Receive and track inventory; monitor levels and replenish supplies.
• Retrieve and deliver parts, materials, and equipment to jobsites and suppliers.
• Assist with loading/unloading and general shop cleanup and safety.

Job description

Established plumbing company serving Atlanta for 50 years is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and mechanically inclined Shop Assistant to support our shop operations and plumbing service teams.

This position primarily involves equipment maintenance, inventory management, deliveries, and general shop upkeep. When needed, you will also assist plumbers and service technicians in the field with plumbing repairs, installations, drain cleaning, and other service work.

As a Shop Assistant / Plumbing Helper, your primary responsibility will be to assist the Shop Supervisor with maintaining company vehicles, tools, equipment, inventory, and shop facilities. You will also serve as a floater helper, assisting plumbers and service technicians in the field as needed.

Shop & Equipment Responsibilities

• Assist with basic vehicle maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs
• Assist with troubleshooting, servicing, repairing, and assembling small engines, machinery, and equipment
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, fluid checks, and component replacement
• Identify equipment problems, report repair needs, and assist with corrective maintenance
• Maintain, clean, and organize company tools, vehicles, and equipment
• Receive, organize, and track inventory, materials, tools, and supplies
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with replenishing supplies
• Retrieve and deliver parts, materials, tools, and equipment to jobsites, suppliers, and company facilities
• Assist with loading and unloading vehicles, equipment, and materials
• Help maintain shop facilities and grounds, including mowing, weed eating, sweeping, mopping, and general cleaning
• Keep shop, storage, office, restroom, and work areas clean, organized, and safe

Plumbing & Field Support Responsibilities

• Assist plumbers with plumbing repairs, installations, inspections, and maintenance
• Assist with cleaning drains, sewer lines, toilets, sinks, manholes, and lift stations
• Help identify and report plumbing, equipment, and jobsite safety concerns
• Dig trenches and ditches
• Mix and pour concrete
• Load, unload, and transport tools, materials, and equipment
• Enter confined spaces when required and properly trained, permitted, and authorized
• Retrieve parts and materials from suppliers and inventory
• Clean and organize work areas at the end of each job
• Assist with maintaining company vehicles, tools, and field equipment
• Report customer concerns, jobsite issues, and safety concerns to supervisors
• Perform other duties as assigned to support shop and field operations

Working Conditions

Work is performed in shop, warehouse, office, and outdoor environments, as well as at commercial and other plumbing service locations. Field assignments may include crawl spaces, attics, rooftops, mechanical rooms, construction sites, and confined spaces.

Employees may be exposed to varying temperatures, dust, chemicals, sewage, noise, vibration, moving machinery, and other conditions associated with equipment maintenance and plumbing service work.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, and work in confined spaces
• Ability to handle, move, and transport tools, equipment, and materials
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, machinery, and other assigned equipment
• Sufficient vision, hearing, and depth perception to safely perform job duties
