Job summary

Niowave, Inc. is seeking a Shop Assistant to help keep our Lansing-area shop organized and efficient. You will maintain materials, prepare components, and support maintenance tasks to ensure smooth operations on the production floor.

The role emphasizes reliability, mechanical aptitude, and teamwork in a hands-on environment with varying shifts to meet production needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow SOPs and work instructions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic math includes decimals, fractions, and basic operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to use standard hand tools.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain inventory and order raw materials and sheet metal.
  • Verify and maintain oil and coolant levels on machines.
  • Clean automated and manual machines.
  • Organize and assemble consumables.
  • Maintain inventory and supply cabinets.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on CNC and manual machines, shears, air compressors, forklifts, and hydraulic presses.
  • Dress and maintain grinders.
  • Pre-cut materials according to designs.
  • Maintain overall shop cleanliness.

What You Can Expect To Work On

The Shop Assistant is responsible for the preventative maintenance, overall shop cleanliness, and inventory / ordering of raw materials. This position will also ensure accuracy of project materials and pre‑cut in accordance with designs.

  • Maintains inventory and ordering of raw materials and sheet metal
  • Verifies and maintains oil and coolant levels on all machines
  • Cleans automated and manual machines
  • Organizes and assembles consumables
  • Maintains inventory and supply cabinets
  • Performs preventative maintenance of CNC machines, manual machines, shears, air compressors, forklifts, and hydraulic presses
  • Dresses and maintains grinders
  • Pre‑cuts materials in accordance with designs
  • Maintains overall cleanliness of shops
What You Need To Succeed
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow standard operation procedures (SOP) and work instructions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize standard hand tools
  • Experience working in a team‑oriented, collaborative environment

  • Displays good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

Other Things To Know
  • Full‑time position
  • Niowave’s standard operating hours are Monday – Friday 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. with production related activities requiring 24/7/365 shifts
  • This position will have regular working hours Monday – Friday with an expectation of adjusting working hours outside the standard hours to meet operational requirements
  • Niowave has multiple locations within the Lansing area and travel between locations is expected in the role
