Reports to: TBD

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (40 hours/week, with potential for overtime)

Travel: Infrequent (occasional local material, hardware, and tool runs)

Position Summary

The Shop Assistant keeps production moving. You are the one making sure materials, components, and work-in-progress (WIP) are where they need to be, the floor is clean and safe, and the equipment everyone depends on is running. When a build stalls because a part is missing or a piece is “somewhere in Paint,” you are the person who tracks it down and shuttles it to the next station. Or better yet - you already knew where it was to begin with!

This is a hands‑on, all‑in role and a true engine room for the shop. You will run the forklift, move materials and WIP across the floor, keep work areas clean and organized to the “a place for everything, and everything in its place” standard, and perform routine upkeep on the key equipment that keeps the shop humming — dust collection, air compressors, and more. A willingness to jump in wherever needed is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Materials & Forklift Shuttling: Operate the forklift to receive, move, and stage lumber, hardware, components, and finished goods. Keep materials flowing to the right station at the right time so builds never stall waiting on parts.

Finding & Shuttling WIP (especially Paint): Locate and move work‑in‑progress between stations, with special attention to the Paint/Finishing area where components are most easily stranded or lost. Always know where things are and get them to the next step.

Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop — sweeping, vacuuming, clearing debris, and keeping every area to the “place for everything” standard (doing the rounds: compressor room, aisleways, breakrooms, trash)

Routine Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine, basic upkeep on key shop equipment — emptying and maintaining dust collection, draining and checking air compressors, and other scheduled maintenance — to keep critical systems running, and flag larger issues early.

Receiving & Staging: Receive deliveries, sort and stock items to their proper location, wrap and stage components for storage or shipment, and compile component build kits.

Inventory Support: Count and log inventory of raw materials and finished goods; help keep racks and storage stocked ahead of demand.

General Production Support: Assist with Assembly, Wiring, Fabrication, CNC, QC, or Finishing as day‑to‑day shop needs require. Run occasional local material, hardware, and tool errands.

Safety: Comply with all safety rules and equipment protocols, and operate the forklift and all tools safely.

Qualifications & Skills

A strong work ethic and a “see it, own it” attitude toward keeping the shop running.

Forklift operation experience, or the willingness and ability to become certified.

Strong organizational skills — keeps materials, WIP, and spaces orderly and easy to find.

Detail-oriented and proactive; able to work independently and take initiative on various tasks.

Mechanically inclined — comfortable performing routine maintenance on equipment such as dust collectors and air compressors.

Ability to read and interpret shop plans, parts lists, and component kits.

Basic computer skills (inventory logging and time tracking).

High integrity and the ability to be trusted with confidential and valuable company information.

Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform tasks requiring physical exertion.

Performance Expectations

Flow: Materials and WIP reach the right station on time; builds are not held up waiting on missing or lost pieces.

Order: The shop stays clean, safe, and organized to standard.

Uptime: Key equipment keeps running through consistent routine maintenance, with issues flagged early.

Flexibility: Productively jumps to the next area of need across the shop.

We are committed to the growth of our team members. A successful team member can advance into roles such as:

Assembly Technician

CNC Operator

Finishing / Paint Technician
