Job summary

Core Group Resources is seeking an experienced Structural Fitter Foreman to lead steel fitting and fabrication on a DOD shipyard project. You will supervise a crew of structural fitters, ensure assemblies match drawings, and coordinate with welders and QC to maintain safety, quality, and on-time production.

This hands-on role requires strong blueprint literacy, leadership in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to mentor junior crew while performing fit-up tasks as needed to keep production

Qualifications

• 5+ years of structural steel fitting and fabrication experience.
• Ability to lead and manage a crew in a production environment.
• Strong ability to read blueprints, ship drawings, and welding symbols.
• Knowledge of welding processes and proper weld preparation.
• Commitment to industrial safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct crews performing structural steel fitting and fabrication.
• Read and interpret ship drawings, blueprints, structural plans, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Lay out, fit, align, and install structural components, including plates, angles, beams, brackets, foundations, and stiffeners.
• Verify dimensions, elevations, alignment, and tolerances before welding.
• Assign daily work and manpower based on production priorities.
• Coordinate with welders, QC, project supervision, and other trades so fitted assemblies are ready for welding on schedule.
• Inspect completed fitting work against drawings, specifications, and DOD and shipyard quality requirements.
• Identify and correct fit-up, alignment, dimensional, and fabrication issues.
• Ensure proper use of hand tools, rigging, burning equipment, and other fitting equipment.
• Track crew productivity and report progress, delays, and material needs to management.
• Enforce all shipyard and DOD safety requirements and keep work areas clean and organized.
• Train and mentor fitters and less-experienced crew members.
• Perform hands-on fitting work when needed to support production.
