Job summary

Conneaut Creek Ship Repair Co Inc in United States (OH) seeks an experienced Welder and/or QA/QC Manager to oversee QA/QC welding and fit-up activities at our shipyard. You will ensure all repair and maintenance meet standards and customer specs, working with production, engineering, safety and regulatory teams.

Responsibilities include implementing ABS/USCG standards, conducting audits, managing documentation, and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in quality control within shipbuilding, repair, or heavy industrial environments.
• Strong understanding of NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain shipyard's Quality Management System in accordance with ABS, USCG and other applicable standards.
• Conduct regular inspections, audits, and tests on materials, welding, structural components, piping, and other vessel systems.
• Review and approve quality documentation and coordinate inspections with clients and representatives.
• Investigate non-conformities, root causes, and corrective/preventative actions; promote a quality-focused culture.
• Provide training and support to production teams to uphold quality processes and compliance.

Description

We are seeking an experienced Welder and/or QA/QC Manager to assess all quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) Welding/fit-up activities at our shipyard. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all ship repair and maintenance processes meet internal quality standards and comply with industry regulations and customer specifications. This role requires close collaboration with production, engineering, safety, and regulatory teams to maintain the highest standards of workmanship and compliance. QA/QC Position will report to Vice President.

Responsibilities and Duties (but not limited to)

• Develop, implement, and maintain shipyard's Quality Management System in accordance with ABS, USCG and other applicable standards
• Conduct regular inspections, audits, and tests on materials, welding, structural components, piping, and other vessel structural systems
• Review and approve quality documentation
• Interface with clients, class, and customer representatives to coordinate inspections and resolve quality concerns
• Investigate and document non-conformities, root causes, and corrective/preventative actions
• Provide training and support to production teams to promote a quality-focused culture
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other HSE standards as related to quality processes
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends and recommending process improvements
• Compile/Maintain library of training certificates, welders' qualification, and other qualifications
• Execute inspections according to QA/QC plan in accordance with required inspection procedures. Work with Project Manager on documentation and other requirements

Work Environment

• This role is based in a shipyard and requires both office and field work
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and physical hazards typical of a shipyard environment
• Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is mandatory

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Quality Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience in quality control within a shipbuilding, repair, or heavy industrial environment
• Strong understanding of NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT)
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
• Proficient in quality management software and Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and procedures

Preferred Experience

• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or similar QA/QC certifications preferred
• In-depth knowledge of marine standards and regulations (e.g., ABS, USCG)
• Receive CWI Certification within a year after hired Company will pay for certification. Will require a 2 year Contract after receiving certification.
