Job summary

Marine Group Boat Works LLC is seeking a quality assurance inspector to support government contracts QA activities and assist the QA manager on multiple shipbuilding and repair projects. The role requires reading blueprints, coordinating inspections, and ensuring compliance with Navy and OSHA standards.

The incumbent will document test results, upload reports to the Navy Maintenance Database, participate in daily production meetings, and perform product verification inspections while maintaining

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of QA or shipyard experience preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of basic blueprint drawings.
• Knowledge of maritime terminology or government contracts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Problem solving/analysis and safety awareness.
• OSHA Shipyard Safety knowledge.
• QA organization and shipbuilding/repair discipline skills.
• Strong computer skills; ASNT VT and AWS CWI are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Schedule checkpoints between Prime, Government and Subcontractors.
• Draft test and inspection reports documenting final test results.
• Observe welders and document proficiency for qualification binders.
• Upload reports and inspection documents to the Navy Maintenance Database.
• Review and update each ship’s Test and Inspection Plan.
• Attend daily production meetings with equipment/testing updates.
• Conduct product verification inspections.
• Support QA Manager in testing/inspection plans.
• Communicate inspection status with supervisors.
• Review process control procedures for accuracy and submit to Government.
• Conduct in-process and work-complete surveillance on welding and PCPs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Description

The quality assurance inspector supports the department of government contracts quality assurance activities and projects and provides support to the quality assurance manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Schedule checkpoints between Prime, Government and Subcontractors.
• Draft Test and Inspection Reports in support of documenting final test results on multiple class Ships.
• Observe Marine Group welders performing various weld procedures and documents their proficiency if their respective qualification binders.
• Upload required reports and test and inspection documents in Navy Maintenance Data base.
• Review and update each ship’s Test and Inspection Plan
• Attend daily production meetings providing updated information regarding equipment and systems testing.
• Conduct Product verification Inspections
• Supports QA Manager in all testing and inspection plans
• Communicates and coordinates needed inspection status with all supervisors
• Review Process Control Procedures for accuracy, approve, and submit to the Government for approval.
• Conduct in process and work complete surveillance on welding and flushing PCPs
• Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

• 1-3 years of previous work experience in quality assurance or a shipyard trade preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge and understanding of basic blueprint drawings.
• Knowledge of maritime terminology or government contracts.
• Excellent communication skills written and verbal.
• Problem Solving/Analysis.
• Knowledge of OSHA Shipyard Safety
• Must demonstrate skills in QA organization, shipbuilding/repair disciplines
• Strong computer skills
• ASNT VT Certified a plus
• AWS CWI a plus

• The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Works in all areas of the shipyard and on-board ships.
• Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions.
• Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee’s work area.
• Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
