Job summary

Mainstay Maritime seeks an experienced Welder and/or QA/QC Manager to oversee QA/QC welding/fit-up activities at our shipyard. The role ensures ship repair and maintenance meet internal quality standards and industry regulations, collaborating with production, engineering, safety, and regulatory teams.

Qualifications

• Quality Management, or related field (or equivalent experience) is required.
• Experience in quality control within shipbuilding, repair, or heavy industrial environments is essential.
• Strong understanding of NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) and documentation practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain shipyard Quality Management System per ABS, USCG, and other standards.
• Conduct regular inspections, audits, and tests on materials, welding, structural components, piping, and vessel systems.
• Review and approve quality documentation and non-conformity reports.
• Coordinate inspections with clients, class, and customer representatives; resolve quality concerns.
• Investigate non-conformities, root causes, and corrective/preventive actions; track effectiveness.
• Provide training to production teams to promote a quality-focused culture.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other health, safety, and environment standards.

This role requires close collaboration with production, engineering, safety, and regulatory teams to maintain the highest standards of workmanship and compliance. QA/QC Position will report to Vice President.

Responsibilities And Duties (but Not Limited To)

• Develop, implement, and maintain shipyard’s Quality Management System in accordance with ABS, USCG and other applicable standards
• Conduct regular inspections, audits, and tests on materials, welding, structural components, piping, and other vessel structural systems
• Review and approve quality documentation
• Interface with clients, class, and customer representatives to coordinate inspections and resolve quality concerns
• Investigate and document non-conformities, root causes, and corrective/preventative actions
• Provide training and support to production teams to promote a quality-focused culture
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other HSE standards as related to quality processes
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends and recommending process improvements
• Compile/Maintain library of training certificates, welders’ qualification, and other qualifications
• Execute inspections according to QA/QC plan in accordance with required inspection procedures. Work with Project Manager on documentation and other requirements

Work Environment

• This role is based in a shipyard and requires both office and field work
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and physical hazards typical of a shipyard environment
• Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is mandatory

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Quality Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience in quality control within a shipbuilding, repair, or heavy industrial environment
• Strong understanding of NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT)
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
• Proficient in quality management software and Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and procedures

Preferred Experience

• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or similar QA/QC certifications preferred
• In-depth knowledge of marine standards and regulations (e.g., ABS, USCG)
• Receive CWI Certification within a year after hired Company will pay for certification. Will require a 2 year Contract after receiving certification.
