Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking Pipefitters to install complex piping systems on naval ships. You will read blueprints, fabricate, install, inspect, and test piping onboard ships or in the shop.

In your first weeks you'll attend a Fundamentals of Pipe Fitting class to prepare you for the role. Candidates must have a certificate or diploma in Pipefitting or related field, be able to work at heights or in confined spaces, and lift 40 lbs.

Qualifications

• Must have a certificate or diploma in pipe fitting or a directly related field.
• Able to work at extreme heights or in small confined spaces.
• Able to lift 40 lbs and work assigned shifts.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and fabricate, install, inspect and test piping systems onboard ships.
• Install piping systems in both ship and shop environments.
• Attend Fundamentals of Pipe Fitting class in initial weeks for job readiness.
• Pursue additional training to enhance knowledge over time.
