The MCHENRY MANAGEMENT GROUP, LLC is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to support the Engineering Design Team (EDT) in Chesapeake, VA. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required and 4–8 years in shipbuilding or commercial marine.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Design & Drawing Development: create/modify 2D drawings, layouts, and fabrication details; produce/update drawings in CAD; interpret P&IDs and shipboard specs; support installation drawings and isometrics; ensure compliance with ABS, USCG, NAVSEA.
  • Shipyard Production Support: interface with production teams; verify designs are buildable and aligned with installation realities; resolve interferences; support work package development; provide real-time engineering support.
  • Engineering Change & Configuration Control: support ECR/ECN development, assess impacts on schedule, materials, and installation sequencing; ensure configuration alignment with shipboard requirements.
  • System Integration & Coordination: coordinate across Structural, Electrical, Piping, HVAC; ensure mechanical systems integrate with vessel design; participate in reviews and coordination meetings.
  • Field Verification & As-built Validation: conduct shipboard walkdowns; capture discrepancies; update drawings to reflect as-built conditions; support redline and revision cycles.
  • Test & Commissioning Support: assist with turnover, testing, troubleshooting; contribute to dock and sea trials readiness.
  • Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement: identify design/execution inefficiencies; act as bridge between engineering and production; provide field-driven solutions.
