Job summary

Avail Staffing is seeking skilled manual Inside Machinists for a shipyard setting. Open, direct-hire opportunity with bonuses after 6 months, health insurance, and paid leave.

Must have strong experience fabricating, maintaining, and repairing machinery per blueprints and specifications. The role requires setting up and operating machine tools, measuring with precision instruments, and collaborating with engineers and production staff to ensure quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating manual or CNC lathes/milling machines.
• Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings and trade documents.
• Skilled in setup, operation, and inspection of machining tools.
• Proficient with precision measurement instruments and inspection techniques.
• Must supply own tools and maintain attendance.
• Experience with both small and large steel assembly and heavy fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints, sketches, manuals, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
• Set up and operate machine tools including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, jig borers, and boring machines.
• Perform machining operations, verify dimensions and tolerances, and adjust machines as needed.
• Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, depth mics, and other precision tools.
• Select and secure fixtures, tools, attachments, and standard materials for machining.
• Conduct assembly of machined parts and test operation to ensure functionality.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor maintenance.
• Collaborate with engineers and production personnel to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and report safety concerns immediately.
• Complete comprehensive CFRs.
• Perform threading operations and ensure accurate gauging.
• Use hand and power tools to complete assigned tasks.
• Work independently or as part of a team on various fabrication projects.
