Job summary

Genesis Industrial Ventures is seeking a General Shipyard Estimator in the San Diego area to prepare accurate cost estimates for ship repair, maintenance, fabrication, and modernization projects. You will analyze specifications, labor, materials, subcontractors, and schedules to develop competitive proposals while ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years estimating experience in shipyard, marine construction, or heavy industrial environments.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Familiarity with NAVSEA standards and military specifications is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in Excel and estimating software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review RFPs, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Conduct vessel inspections to determine project scope and labor requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead.
• Develop work breakdown structures and estimate labor hours by trade.
• Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Collaborate with project managers, production supervisors, engineering, purchasing, and operations to develop accurate project estimates.
• Identify project risks, assumptions, and cost-saving opportunities.
• Prepare proposal packages, bid summaries, and pricing documentation.
• Maintain estimating databases, labor production rates, and historical cost information.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, customer site visits, and project kickoff meetings as required.
• Support contract negotiations by providing cost analysis and technical clarification.
• Ensure estimates comply with applicable Navy, Coast Guard, commercial, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
• Assist with change order pricing and additional work estimates during project execution.
