Job summary

PCA is seeking a Shipping Supervisor to manage warehousing, inventory control and the outbound and inbound shipping of finished goods. The role requires 4+ years in a shipping environment, a high school diploma, and the ability to lead teams, train staff and drive safety and continuous improvement.

You will schedule loading, monitor performance metrics, resolve shipping issues, and ensure on-time shipments across the operation.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years’ experience working in a shipping department.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed.
  • Some college or manufacturing training preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience with training, teambuilding, performance development, and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all outbound shipments ensuring timely shipment of orders and provide shipment status updates.
  • Direct inbound shipments including inspection, unloading, and storage of materials.
  • Schedule work, coordinate production activities, oversee employees, approve time records, and enforce policy.
  • Engage in employee development, hire/promotion/disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and enforce health and safety procedures.
  • Train on equipment, protocols, production standards, safety regulations, and waste control.
  • Supervise warehouse operations and inspect materials and equipment.
  • Analyze shipping department performance, identify opportunities and implement improvements.
  • Investigate customer complaints related to shipping or transit damage.
  • Participate in production meetings and provide updates.
  • Manage on-hand and month-end inventory.

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for warehousing, inventory control, and shipping of finished goods. The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for managing activities on the assigned shift in an efficient and safe manner.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Direct all activities associated with outbound shipments ensuring the timely shipment of scheduled customer orders, planning truck/rail car loading schedules, and providing order shipment status updates.

Direct all activities associated with inbound shipments ensuring the proper inspection, unloading, and storage of all materials.

Schedule work, coordinate production activities, provide direct oversight of employees, approve time records, communicate and implement company policy.

Engage in employee development activities, make recommendations on employee hire, promotion and disciplinary action.

Maintain a clean, safe and injury‑free work environment by ensuring health and safety procedures are understood and executed by all employees.

Conduct employee training on all equipment, protocols, production standards, safety regulations and waste control on an ongoing basis.

Supervise efficient operation of warehouse and equipment including the inspection of materials, products and equipment to detect and/or prevent malfunctions.

Ensure completion of departmental operations in accordance with continuous improvement standards of PCA.

Analyze shipping department performance, identify opportunities, make recommendations for process and equipment improvement, establish goals and execute strategy.

Investigate customer complaints concerning damaged product that may have been caused by shipping or transit damage.

Participate in production meeting and provide updates as needed.

Manage on‑hand inventory and month end inventory.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma required.

4+ years’ experience working in a shipping department.

Ability to work flexible hours when needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Some college or manufacturing training.

Previous experience in a corrugated manufacturing environment.

Previous supervisory experience with training, teambuilding, performance development, and conflict resolution.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests.

Knowledge of the machinery, methods and procedures in the department under supervision.

Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead and communicate with production team and management.

Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures regarding continual improvement and safety processes.

Working knowledge of manufacturing systems including shop floor software.

Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline‑oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently.

Solid analytical and mechanical ability.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Previous work experience as a member of a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Starting salary range for position: $70,000 - $80,000.
  • Bonus: Annual – Based upon individual contribution and overall, Company performance.
  • Paid Vacation: Three (3) weeks per calendar year. Pro‑rate Vacation during the initial year of hire based upon start date within the calendar year.
  • Paid Holidays.
  • Within the first 30 days of employment, an employee (and their dependents) is eligible to enroll in certain benefit coverages -- medical, dental, and vision – and are automatically enrolled in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Upon hire, an employee is automatically enrolled in the 401k plan. The plan offers both pre‑tax and Roth contribution options along with employer provided matching contributions.
