Overview

Job Summary

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day execution and performance of the outbound shipping warehouse, ensuring safe, compliant, accurate, and timely fulfillment of customer orders. This role directly supervises Material Handlers and Material Handler Leads and provides leadership for order fulfillment, inventory movement, warehouse organization, product release and shipment activities, and issue resolution.

The Shipping Supervisor serves as a hands‑on floor leader, allocating resources to meet daily business priorities, maintaining adherence to cGMP and departmental procedures, and partnering cross‑functionally to resolve operational issues and continuously improve Shipping processes. The role also supports employee development, performance management, training, and compliance activities.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the daily operations of the outbound Shipping warehouse, supervising Material Handlers and Material Handler Leads, allocating labor, prioritizing orders, monitoring workflow, preparing and leading daily Tier 1 meetings, executing holiday schedules, and implementing process changes to maximize efficiency and service levels.
  • Ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment, including picking, packing, labeling, staging, SAP shipping transactions, delivery documentation and data entry, and coordination of Sales Order-to-Delivery Note creation with Client Services, in accordance with cGMP and departmental procedures.
  • Coordinate the transfer and stocking of materials between warehouses across campus; monitor product release status; coordinate with Manufacturing Quality Assurance regarding product holds and blocked inventory; perform and oversee cycle counts and physical year-end inventories; review and follow up on ZPend transactions; manage shipping-supply inventory and replenishment; and ensure expired product is appropriately identified and discarded.
  • Triage operational events and investigate internal and external customer non‑conformances and non‑manufacturing customer complaints, including damaged‑in‑transit shipments, over/short shipments, and temperature excursions; identify root causes; elevate issues as appropriate; and partner with cross‑functional teams to implement corrective actions, process changes, and required training.
  • Maintain a safe, compliant, organized, and inspection‑ready warehouse by coordinating and conducting weekly Gemba walks and monthly 6S audits, identifying and reporting unsafe equipment or working conditions, and ensuring appropriate cleaning, organization and maintenance of the warehouse and shipping equipment.
  • Ensure required inspections and preventive maintenance are completed according to Facilities/Maintenance schedules and that employees safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, automated taping equipment, company vehicles, and other shipping equipment.
  • Review and approve ADP payroll and maintain accurate employee records, including performance appraisals, timecards, attendance, vacation records, and corrective‑action documentation; monitor employee performance and address attendance or performance issues in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Coordinate training plans and schedules, onboard and train new hires, and ensure employees receive required training on Shipping processes, procedures, equipment, safety, cGMP requirements, and process changes resulting from investigations, non‑conformances, or continuous improvement activities.
  • Partner with the Shipping Manager and Human Resources on workforce planning and talent management, including opening requisitions, interviewing candidates, selecting and hiring qualified employees, onboarding new team members, and maintaining appropriate staffing and labor allocation.
  • Coordinate miscellaneous and special shipments and ensure products and shipping supplies are properly prepared, transported, staged, and stored according to department specifications and customer requirements.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve Shipping processes, inventory accuracy, quality, safety, workflow, and customer service; elevate IT and operational issues as appropriate; and collaborate with cross‑functional partners to ensure timely resolution of issues and sustainable improvements.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Supervisory or team‑lead experience in warehouse, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or regulated environments, with experience leading hourly employees.
  • Experience with ERP/WMS systems and SAP shipping transactions preferred.
  • Experience in cGMP, FDA‑regulated, medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or similar environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control, order fulfillment, warehouse, and shipping operations.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills, including root‑cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to safely operate or oversee material‑handling equipment, including forklifts.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
