Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking a dedicated Materials Handler to receive, stock, and deliver supplies and equipment to ensure uninterrupted patient care. The role supports patient care areas and collaborates with management to sustain accurate inventory levels.

The position involves lifting medium amounts of weight, operating pallet jacks, and moving supplies within a hospital setting. Prior experience in supply distribution is preferred, with a High School diploma or equivalent required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in receiving, stocking and distribution of supplies preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive supplies and equipment accurately and efficiently.
• Stock supplies in central storeroom in proper locations.
• Deliver non-stock items to requesting areas.
• Pull and deliver stock using Kanban cards, requisitions, or other means.
• Document returns and issues to ensure inventory accuracy.
• Collaborate with manager to maintain accurate, cost-effective storeroom inventory.
• Support patient care areas to keep inventories at proper levels.
• Stock alcoves in patient care areas to appropriate levels.
• Communicate shortages to requesting departments.
• Maintain backorder procedures in MMIS for timely replenishment.
• Keep storeroom and work areas neat and clean.
• Follow Mercy safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions.

Summary

This position supports Mercy’s philosophy of patient centered care by receiving, stocking and delivery of supplies and equipment in a timely efficient manner to ensure availability for proper patient care.

Job Duties

• May receive supplies and equipment in an accurate, efficient manner.
• Stocks supplies in the central storeroom in proper locations
• May delivernon-stock items to the requesting areas.
• Accurately pulls and delivers stock supplies to requesting areas utilizing Kanban cards, computer requisitions or other means of requisition.
• Documents returns and issues to ensure inventory accuracy of stock supplies.
• Works withmanager to keep storeroom inventory at accurate,proper, cost effective levels.
• Works with patient care areas to keep their supply inventories at proper cost effective levels.
• Stocks Alcoves in patient care areas to appropriate levels of linen and supplies.
• Properly communicates any shortages to requesting departments.
• Maintains backorder procedure in MMIS system to ensure timely replenishment of those supplies.
• Maintains neatness and cleanliness of storeroom and work areas.
• Follows Mercy’s safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and write. Computer entry.
• Count and maintain inventory accuracy.
• Proper telephone courtesy.
• Use of pallet jacks, carts, flat-beds, freight elevator to move supplies and equipment.
• Good communication skills.
• Work with interruptions and multi-tasks.

Professional Experience

• Previous experience in receiving, stocking and distribution of supplies preferred
