Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking a Transporter to safely move patients between the nursing floor, radiology, and ancillary departments, supporting patient-centered care. You will communicate clearly during hand-offs and follow safety and isolation guidelines while assisting with laundry, linens, and equipment maintenance.

Prior hospital experience and BCLS certification are preferred. This role requires a collaborative team player who can adapt to a variable schedule and hospital environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma preferred or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Communicate accurate and timely information at hand-offs to ensure the best patient outcomes.
• Transport patients to Radiology and other departments as needed from the nursing floor.
• Picks up laundry and restocks linens in Radiology and related areas.
• Maintain cleanliness of transportation equipment.
• Perform patient tracking workflow processes.
• Follow isolation practices and participate in student training.
• Collaborate with the team to meet department and business needs.

Summary

Job Duties

• Ensure that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
• Transport patients for the Radiology Department as well as for Ancillary departments to and from the nursing floor for procedures.
• Picks up laundry throughout Radiology department and restocks linens.
• Maintains cleanliness of transportation equipment.
• Performs patient tracking workflow processes
• Utilizes and follows proper Isolation Practices
• Oversees training of students during Transport rotation
• Works as a team to meet the needs of the business and helps in the department as needed.
• Follows Mercy’s safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Safe body mechanics to help prevent injury.

• Must possess critical thinking skills and have a perception of what the patient needs.

Professional Experience

• Previous work or training in medical setting preferred.

Education

• High SchoolDiploma or equivalent strongly preferred. Relevant experience to be considered in lieu of diploma.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

• Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Physical Requirements

Medium: Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently
