Job summary

Opal Foods is seeking a Shipping/Receiving Lead I for the Litchfield, MN plant to oversee the shipping and warehouse functions and supervise cooler and warehouse staff. You will coordinate with customers and internal teams to ensure on-time shipments, manage inventories, and support weekly audits.

The role requires forklift operation, accurate recordkeeping, and strong communication with sales and transportation teams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years in warehouse/inventory-based operations preferred.
• Experience with WMS systems preferred.
• Ability to perform basic math computations.
• Must read and write English.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate inventory and records.
• Strong communication and multitasking skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee plant shipping and warehouse function and supervise cooler and warehouse personnel.
• Review orders and shipments with Customers and Opal team members to ensure timely shipment.
• Operate forklift and pallet jack as needed.
• Maintain inventory and perform weekly audits; balance paperwork.
• Verify BOLs and ensure customer requests are fulfilled for shipments.
• Communicate daily with sales and transportation on transfers and orders.
• Create POs and reports related to shipping materials.
• Contribute to recalls, complaints, and incident investigations.

Shipping & Receiving Lead I – Litchfield, MN Plant

Overview

This position is responsible for overseeing the plant shipping and warehouse function. This position will work with Customers and Opal team members reviewing orders and shipments and ensuring timely shipment of product. Successful candidates will supervise the cooler and warehouse personnel, assist with unloading and loading trucks as necessary, process invoices and bills of lading, maintain inventory, and perform weekly audits to balance all reported paperwork.

Job Duties

• Supervise and manage work schedules for direct reports.
• Ensure assigned areas are properly maintained at all times.
• Ensure Opal Foods SQF, QC and safety procedures are followed in cooler and warehouse, shipping and receiving.
• Conduct Cooler inventory and reconcile differences daily, report unusual discrepancies.
• Conduct Warehouse inventory once a week and at month end.
• Monitor CFS label creation for accuracy throughout the day.
• Verify BOLs prior to loading to ensure that all customer requests are accurately filled for shipment and send BOLs for egg loads moved in or out of facility.
• Communicate with sales and transportation departments daily on internal product transfers, customer orders, egg shortages, long/shorts, and specialty egg orders.
• Operate forklift and pallet jack machines to unload and load trucks as necessary.
• Communicate with packaging coordinator to monitor supply and delivery of packaging materials as needed.
• Create PO’s and reports related to shipping materials including pallet, label, stretch wrap, CHEP, and RPC
• Participate in mock recalls, customer complaints, and incident investigations (5 whys).
• Update shipping, receiving and packaging calendars as needed.

Additional Functions

• Must have flexibility to work late to complete department tasks.
• Ability to work weekend and holiday shifts as necessary to cover open shifts.
• Maintain flexibility to help other departments as needed and perform additional tasks as assigned by the manager and/or the director.

Requirements/Education

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of 5 years in warehouse/inventory-based operations that deal with consumption of raw and finished materials highly preferred.
• Minimum 5 years utilizing WMS systems highly preferred.
• Must be able to perform basic math computations
• Must be able to read and write English
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate cooler and warehouse inventory
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation and records
• Demonstrated ability to multitask management of functions such as available inventory, loads shipped, loads received, and orders received
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all levels of personnel
• Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office based systems and operate office equipment
• Able to lift/carry 50 lbs.
• General mechanical experience is highly preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

This position requires frequent movement from the office area to the operational areas including cooler, warehouse, processing floor, and outdoor dock areas. Temperatures, humidity, and dust levels will vary greatly depending on the time of the year and area being worked in.
