Job summary

Kelso Industries in Duncan, SC, is seeking a dependable General Helper to support fabrication, shipping and receiving, and other shop departments. You will count, organize, prepare, and move parts and materials to keep pipe fabrication and assembly on schedule.

Work is done in the shop and outdoors; you will load/unload trucks, deliver materials, and assist various departments as directed, with emphasis on safety, accuracy, and willingness to handle routine tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience counting and organizing parts or materials and checking them against packing slips or material lists.
• Experience loading and unloading trucks and moving heavy or long materials.
• Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; forklift experience is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Count, sort, identify, and organize parts, materials, and supplies.
• Verify that items and quantities are correct before they are stored, delivered, or shipped.
• Load and unload trucks and move materials, including pipe and other long materials, safely.
• Gather and deliver the correct parts and materials to workers and workstations.
• Confirm part numbers and quantities before delivery.
• Ask the requesting worker or a supervisor when unsure which part is needed rather than guessing.
• Clean pipe and other materials, grind, measure, and label as directed.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools correctly and safely.
• Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment once trained and authorized.
• Complete equipment inspection sheets before use, and report any defect found, even if the equipment was reported as working on a previous shift.
• Operate only equipment you have been trained to use, and notify a supervisor if asked to use equipment you are not trained on.
• Wear all required PPE and follow safe lifting and load-handling practices.
• Assist different departments as directed, checking with a supervisor when requests compete.
• Perform cleaning and routine housekeeping, inside and outside.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
