About This Role
Every position at Common Citizen from seed to sale, is contributing to our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis product through our highly individualized and education-oriented provisioning centers. The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator owns the inbound and outbound flow at our Jackson facility every shift. This includes receiving and verifying every incoming shipment, staging and verifying every outgoing shipment, keeping packaging and raw materials in their assigned locations, supporting inventory counts, and closing each shift with a daily reconciliation report. This role runs on standard work: the same sequence every shift, with every mismatch stopped, held, and escalated rather than worked around.
Responsibilities
Outlined below is what we see you doing at this point in time. We are a fast-growing company looking for people that are excited to grow along with us. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Receiving
- Unload only to inbound staging; match every receipt to the packing list, PO, or [transfer manifest] before put-away.
- Physically count every receipt and record expected versus received quantities; never copy quantities from the paperwork.
- Photograph damage before signing for a delivery and move suspect or unidentified material to the hold location.
- Record receipts, including lot or date codes, in [Metrc / ERP], or in the manual log if the system is down.
- Put away accepted material only to its assigned location, following FIFO.
Shipping
- Stage outbound material against the ship order or pack list, never from memory or a verbal request.
- Verify item, quantity, and destination before loading; stop the load on any mismatch.
- Package and label shipments to standard; capture piece count, [transporter], [manifest or tracking number], and ship time before departure.
- Record every shipment in the system and clear outbound staging after the truck leaves.
Inventory, Materials, and 5S
- Keep packaging and raw materials only in their marked locations; report full or empty locations rather than creating new ones.
- Support scheduled and requested inventory counts; record variances and hand them to the count lead or supervisor the same shift.
- Own the 5S condition of the shipping and receiving area, dock, and staging every shift.
Reporting and Escalation
- Reconcile every inbound and outbound transaction and send the daily reconciliation report before the end of each shift, including on zero days.
- Escalate wrong items, shortages, overages, damage, missing paperwork, system outages, and dock safety issues to the supervisor the same shift.
- Complete the daily standard work checklist and write a clear handoff for the next shift.
- Follow Shipping and Receiving SOP-SW-SRC-001 and all company security and compliance procedures.
Qualifications
- [1-2] years of shipping, receiving, warehouse, or inventory experience.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with counts, data entry, and documentation.
- Comfortable using a scanner, inventory software, and email.
- Clear written communication; able to produce a daily report and shift handoff.
- Willingness to stop work and elevate a problem rather than work around it.
- Ability to safely operate a pallet jack and other authorized dock equipment after training.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check as required by state cannabis regulations.
- Experience in a regulated environment (cannabis, food, pharmaceutical, or similar) with lot traceability is preferred.
- Experience with Metrc or another seed-to-sale tracking system is preferred.
- Knowledge of 5S, FIFO, or other lean practices is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods on a warehouse and dock floor.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to [50] pounds.
- Regularly bend, reach, push, and pull; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Work near open dock doors with exposure to temperature changes; wear required PPE.
Why You’d Love This Role
- A high level of professionalism and believe in our founding principles: “Cannabis for humanity” and “Change for the better”. As such, you enjoy being involved in the community and being a steward for the company and the positive change that we believe in.
- A passion for providing the residents and visitors of Michigan with the highest quality and safest cannabis products in the state.
- A desire to change the social perception of cannabis and a passion for humanity.
- A constant desire to learn new skills and believe in continuous improvement, both personally and professionally.
- Value integrity and honesty and want to bring those values to the cannabis industry.
