Description

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for managing incoming and outgoing shipments, verifying, and recording information, and ensuring the accuracy of inventory records. Additionally, this role will include operating a forklift to move and stack materials, so OSHA certification for forklift operation is required.

Duties + Responsibilities

  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Receive incoming shipments, verify contents against packing slips or bills of lading, and document any discrepancies.
  • Prepare outgoing shipments, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation.
  • Safely load and unload trucks using a forklift, prioritizing efficient handling of materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in shipping and receiving areas to optimize operations.
  • Monitor inventory counts on incoming and outgoing material, tracking, and updating the status of shipments.
  • Communicate effectively with carriers, suppliers, and internal departments to schedule deliveries and resolve shipment issues.
  • Assist with various warehouse tasks, including material handling and inventory management, as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and OSHA guidelines, including the proper operation of forklift equipment.
  • Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Service presses by loading raw material onto reels or feed tables and emptying scrap hoppers as needed.
  • Empty trash and scrap on the lower level of the plant floor.
  • Operate lifting apparatus to move materials within the plant and stage them accordingly.
  • Weigh materials or products when necessary and record weights on tags or labels.
  • Replace propane tanks as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience, Knowledge + Skills

  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations is preferred.
  • Forklift certification from an accredited training program or equivalent experience is required.
  • Two years minimum experience as a full-time lift truck operator is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping is essential for maintaining inventory accuracy.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects safely to ensure the integrity of shipments and prevent injuries.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with colleagues and external partners.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with shipping software or inventory management systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment to meet shipping deadlines.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Physical Demands + Work Environment

  • The employee must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and work comfortably in a noisy and potentially hazardous industrial environment. Additionally, they should be capable of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods. During job duties, the employee may also need to sit, stoop, kneel, climb, or balance occasionally. They must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and a risk of electrical shock. There is occasional exposure to high, precarious places, and specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment often features loud noise levels due to moving mechanical parts.
