Job summary

Qualifications

• Skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
• 3-5 years of experience.
• Experience operating equipment and recognizing materials in the service center.
• Demonstrates leadership and strong interpersonal communication.
• Ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment.
• Willingness to learn SAP; prior SAP experience not required.
• Physical ability to pass vision, hearing, and mobility exams.

Responsibilities

• Operate motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side loader, and forklift.
• Fill in when short-handed or during high demand to meet production goals.
• Train staff to ensure task proficiency; coach, mentor and develop.
• Lead pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team.
• Ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards.
• Direct repairs or coordinate outside repairs for machinery as needed.
• Take short-term responsibility for management absences as requested.
• All other duties as assigned or as needed.

As a Shipping Lead at Excelsior, part of Ryerson family of companies, you will oversee the warehouse team and assist the Supervisor with production and department goals.

Roles And Responsibilities

• The ideal candidate will operate motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side loader, and forklift
• It is also a requirement that when short-handed or during periods of high demand, Leadership is responsible for filling in where needed
• Responsible for training staff to ensure they are fully trained for the tasks they are performing. Coaches, mentors, counsels, and develops
• Effectively leads pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team
• Ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards
• Reacts to machinery breakdowns by directing repairs when possible, arranging for outside repairs or reassignment of personnel as needed
• Assume short-term responsibility for management absences as requested

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• 3-5 years of experience
• Experience operating equipment and ability to recognize materials in the service center
• Possesses leadership abilities and has a desire to advance and solid interpersonal communication skills required
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment
• Flexible, dependable, and solutions-oriented
• The successful candidate is expected to develop proficiency in SAP as part of their role. Prior experience is not required, but a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in SAP is essential.
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility

Wage: $28 - $30 hourly. A starting hourly wage higher than $28 is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
