Job description

As a Contract Shipping Coordinator, your main focus will be to ensure all of Virgin Galactic’s shipping and receiving requirements are met.

The Shipping Coordinator’s duties will include overseeing incoming and outgoing freight paperwork, preparing shipments, tracking shipments, incoming receipt of all receivables and verification of receipt count of shipments, conduct the loading and unloading of trucks, and assembling shipping cartons/crates.

Ideal candidates should have hazardous shipping experience along with a work history that demonstrates the ability to lead processes successfully in an environment that requires exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment and decision-making abilities, and the ability to multitask.

This person will work Mon-Fri (7AM-3:30PM) from our Mojave CA office.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for inbound receiving. Accurately receive all inbound deliveries into ERP System and maintain records of all receipts in compliance with VG requirements. Responsible for timely delivery of all packages that include stock and non-stock items.
  • Research dangerous goods regulations and prepare the Shippers Declaration of Dangerous Goods. Dangerous and Hazardous Materials Certification desired.
  • Responsible for outbound shipping. Pack, label and maintain all outbound shipping records in compliance with VG & DOT requirements.
  • Schedule carriers for timely pick-up of shipments to meet customer requirements. Ensure shipment documentation is accurate, to avoid delays in delivery. Quote transportation with multiple carriers to minimize shipping costs.
  • Resolve issues which cause shipment delays in customs or elsewhere.
  • Maintain logs and maintenance software for company owned or leased vehicles and equipment to include pick-up trucks, forklifts, man lifts, carts, tractors, semi-tractor trailer combinations.
  • Performs freight transportation between company facilities and regional vendors.
  • Loads materials into vehicles or onto trailers and attaches strapping, bracing or padding to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
  • Completes associated paperwork such as daily vehicle inspection reports, load manifest, receipt travelers and receipts.
  • Willingness to work overtime or adjust schedule for special assignments.
  • Oversee facilitating and expediting the flow of time-sensitive materials to specified production areas, manually or using handcart, hand truck, or forklift.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Current knowledge or ability to learn how to use commercial shipping software such as those provided by UPS & FEDEX
  • Must be service oriented and maintain a professional approach dealing with business partners/customers/clients.
  • Active participation on the processes of continuous improvement, customer satisfaction and cost reduction.
  • Physically able to lift heavy objects up to 75 pounds
  • Demonstrate driving skills for all required equipment
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills
  • Able to multitask with multiple shipments and issues at the same time
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel PowerPoint and Oracle transaction process knowledge.
  • Maintain certification to ship hazardous materials per DOT and IATA requirements
