Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with production, yard, sales, drivers, and management.
  • Commitment to working safely around heavy equipment, moving loads, and steel products.
  • Ability to work assigned shift (1st or 2nd) and overtime or occasional Saturdays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Follow documented shipping and receiving processes to ensure inbound/outbound loads are safely loaded/unloaded and processed to quality standards.
  • Verify material against bills of lading, packing lists, work orders, and shipping documents before driver signature and ERP processing.
  • Enter and update shipment, receipt, and inventory data in ERP for real-time accuracy and traceability.
  • Coordinate daily with Production, Sales, and Yard teams to stage and release material for orders and fabrication jobs.
  • Send shipment status updates and communicate issues or delays using Outlook and other tools.
  • Process daily receiving reports and close open purchase orders and returns in a timely manner.
  • Receive, unpack, and inspect incoming steel, consumables, and supplies; report shortages or damage.
  • Identify and document any damage or discrepancies for corrective action and reimbursements.

General Position Description

The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator is responsible forcoordinating all inbound and outbound movement of steel plate, structuralsteel, and fabricated components at Willbanks Metals Inc. This role verifiesand documents shipments, ensures material accuracy and traceability, and worksclosely with Production, Sales, and Yard personnel to meet customer deliveryrequirements and internal quality and safety standards. This position may beassigned to 1st or 2nd shift based on business needs.

Primary / Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Follow documented shipping and receivingprocesses to ensure all inbound and outbound loads are safely and efficientlyloaded/unloaded, checked, and processed to company quality standards.
  • Verify material (grade, size, quantity, heat/lotnumbers, and other identifiers) against bills of lading, packing lists, workorders, and other shipping documents before driver signature and ERPprocessing.
  • Accurately enter and update shipment, receipt,and inventory data in the ERP system and other software to maintain real-timeinventory accuracy and traceability.
  • Coordinate daily with Production, Sales, andYard/Material Handling teams to stage, prioritize, and release material forcustomer orders and internal fabrication jobs.
  • Use Outlook and other communication tools tosend shipment status updates, request production lead times, and communicateissues or delays.
  • Process daily receiving reports; ensure all openpurchase orders and return authorizations are received, documented, and closedin a timely manner.
  • Receive, unpack, and inspect incoming steel,consumables, and supplies; verify against packing slips and report anyshortages, overages, or damage.
  • Verify and receive defective or returnedmaterial from customers and the field; properly segregate, tag, and documentmaterial for disposition.
  • Identify, document, and communicate any damage,quality issues, or discrepancies to appropriate stakeholders for correctiveaction and possible reimbursement.
  • Ensure outbound loads are properly packaged,banded, blocked, and secured in accordance with company standards, safetyguidelines, and carrier requirements (flatbed and van).
  • Prepare and organize all required shippingpaperwork, including bills of lading, packing lists, labels, material testreports (MTRs), and other documents required for steel traceability.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized dock, staging,and yard area in accordance with 5S and safety expectations.
  • Safely operate forklifts, yard equipment, and(if applicable) overhead cranes to move steel and finished goods, once properlytrained and certified.
  • For 2nd shift assignments: inspect and verifyload readiness for next-day shipments, confirm paperwork, and communicate anyshortages or issues to the day shift and supervisor.
  • Assist with cycle counts and physicalinventories of finished goods and raw material.
  • May perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of forklift experience (sit-down and/orstand-up), including handling long and heavy loads.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes in a steelor heavy industrial environment.
  • Current forklift certification (or ability toobtain shortly after hire).
  • Current CDL is a plus, but not required.
  • Previous experience in a steel service center,fabrication shop, or industrial distribution warehouse.
  • Ability to work any shift and adapt to changingproduction and shipping priorities.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for 8–12 hours pershift.
  • Regularly lift, push, pull, or carry up to 15lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Frequently reach above shoulder level, below thewaist, and climb, bend, twist, and stoop while handling material.
  • Ability to safely climb onto and off of flatbedand dry van trailers.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoorenvironments in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
Work Environment
  • Works in a steel fabrication and distributionfacility with both indoor warehouse and outdoor yard environments.
  • Noise levels can be moderate to loud and mayinclude heavy equipment, cutting, and material handling operations.
  • Frequent exposure to moving forklifts, trucks,cranes, and other heavy equipment; personal protective equipment (PPE) isrequired.
  • Work schedules may include 1st or 2nd shift andovertime based on customer and production demands.
