Primary Purpose and Function

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for the accurate, timely, and safe handling of all inbound and outbound shipments. This role ensures that products, materials, and supplies are properly received, inspected, documented, and shipped in accordance with company standards and customer requirements. The position supports production and inventory functions by maintaining clear records, coordinating with internal departments and external carriers, and performing material handling and local deliveries as needed to meet operational goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform shipping and receiving duties.
• Support the shipment of goods produced and the goods and supplies received to be used in or to aid in the production/storage of goods designed for sale to our customer base.
• Responsible for planning the pick-up by the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order which is conveyed to the shipping clerk by final inspection via shipping instructions.
• Must report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
• Responsible for always keeping an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand.
• Required to forward a requisition for shipping materials to the Department Supervisor for approval.
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
• Required to make pick-ups and deliveries to our suppliers for parts and raw materials using a company van.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or management, in alignment with organizational goals and operational needs.
• Create, coordinate and monitor POs with external operation vendors.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

• Ability to perform but not limited to the following tasks, be familiar with and able to interpret packing slips, enter into the computer the correct information, to acknowledge receipt of the goods into the purchase order and processing database.
• Must be able to fill out bills of landing and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
• You must be capable of estimating weight and use that information to calculate the cost of shipping.
• Must be familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
• Must be familiar with the most common material handling equipment and be a licensed forklift truck operator.
• Experience with UPS/FEDEX online software is desirable.

Physical Requirements:

• Required to lift to 50 lbs.
• Required to drive a company van
• Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the facility

• Required to read and write English
• Required to follow verbal instructions and use simple math
