Job summary

Third Coast in Alvin, TX is seeking a Shipping Operator (A) to lead shipping tasks, coach operators, and improve plant safety and efficiency. You will oversee picking, packing, labeling, and loading while ensuring compliance with safety procedures and ERP-based inventory records.

The role requires 4+ years of forklift/warehouse experience and knowledge of hazardous materials, with strong leadership and communication skills to drive continuous improvement in logistics operations.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Shipping Supervisor, the Shipping Operator (A) main task is to provide first line leadership to support the shipping operations team through continuous improvement of plant operation, maintenance, equipment integrity, reliability, and safety performance.

Job Responsibilities
  • Follow written or oral instructions regarding daily tasks and job duties.
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise for the shipping operators.
  • Know, comply, and enforce safe work procedures and operational discipline practices to the logistics team.
  • Responsible for leading tasks associated with picking/packing/labeling and shipping operations.
  • Perform forklift loading/unloading duties safely and according to regulations.
  • Provide direction and training assistance to shipping operators.
  • Act as a step‑up Supervisor.
  • Thoroughly inspect packages, paperwork and loading vehicles for any damages and discrepancies.
  • Accurately record warehouse inventory movements of all packages received and shipped on purchase orders and sales orders.
  • Complete inventory movements physically and within the company ERP system.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to locate missing packages, fix incorrect labels, address paperwork and/or batch discrepancies, replace or repackage damaged product.
  • Comply with safety standards and warehouse protocols for equipment use.
  • Perform plant cleanup standard tasks during and at the end of an operation or workday.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills
  • High School Graduate or GED (preferred but not required).
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 4 years forklift and comparable warehouse experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with hazardous materials.
Skills and Competencies
  • Must be able to multitask, stay organized, be detailed and focused, and show a high level of initiative.
  • Strong operations aptitude is desired.
  • Must have good communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be a self‑starter and willing to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to identify and then implement process and productivity improvements.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately and completely, understand the importance of detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.
  • Good computer skills / ERP system experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to use their hands and arms to handle, feel, or reach.
  • The team member frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • The team member occasionally is required to sit.
  • The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally move or manipulate drums weighing between 200 and 600 pounds.
