Job summary

Third Coast is seeking a Packaging Operator to lead the operations team, troubleshoot production units, and enforce safe work procedures. You will assist with offloading trucks and iso containers, connect hoses, operate packaging machinery, apply labels, and transfer products to warehouse locations.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years in warehousing, familiarity with hazardous materials, and strong leadership and communication skills to maintain productivity and quality.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years warehouse experience.
  • Itegrity in handling hazardous materials knowledge.
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first line leadership to support the operations team.

  • Operate packaging machinery at production lines with safety as priority.

  • Assist other operators to prevent fatigue and maintain productivity.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Packaging Supervisor, the Packaging Operator (A) main task is to: Provide first line leadership to support the operations team through continuous improvement of plant operation, maintenance, mechanical equipment integrity, reliability, and safety performance.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Follow written or oral instructions regarding daily tasks and job duties.
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise for the production units.
  • Know, comply, and enforce safe work procedures and operational discipline practices to the operations team.
  • Act as a stepup Supervisor.
  • Spot Bulk trucks or ISOs into designated offloading areas.
  • Apply grounding cables to carry off static electricity.
  • Position hoses to unload the product into the designated spots by connecting hoses to manifolds, transfer lines and filter housing.
  • Monitor offloading process including watching gauges, pressurizing/ depressurizing bulk units and or by visually monitoring levels which may require the need to climb up onto tank trucks or railcars by ladder.
  • Open/Close valves, recoil hoses onto hose rack which requires pulling and reaching.
  • Operate packaging machinery of several types at the production lines, always performing actions safely.
  • Sort and weigh products after packaging to ensure requirements are met and no mistakes have been made.
  • Apply labels and transfer products to warehouse locations.
  • Perform simple maintenance on your machine to ensure it is completely functional and safe to operate.
  • Perform tasks assigned to operations such as quality inspections, equipment preparation, process sampling, operating equipment lines, inventory movements (physical and within company ERP system), unloading/loading product from rail cars, tanks, ISO’s, tank trucks, totes, drums, and pails.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and report the following to supervisor: equipment defects or malfunctions; out of spec material or contamination; safety issues or incidents.
  • Complete paperwork and other minor administrative tasks carefully ensuring all information is entered correctly and clearly.
  • Support other machine operators to ensure no workers become fatigued or distracted during daily operation.
  • Perform plant cleanup standard tasks during and at the end of an operation or workday.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • High School Graduate or GED desired but not required.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 4 years warehouse experience
  • Knowledge of and experience working with hazardous materials.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Must be able to multitask, stay organized, detailed, and focused and show a high level of initiative.
  • Strong operations aptitude is desired.
  • Must have good communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be a selfstarter and willing to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to identify and then implement process and productivity improvements.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately and completely, understand the importance of detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.
  • Good Computer skills/ERP system experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to use their hands and arms to handle, feel, or reach.
  • The team member frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • The team member is occasionally required to sit.
  • The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally move or manipulate drums weighing between 200600 pounds.
