Responsibilities

• Count, weigh, or measure items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
• Keep inventory of shipping materials and supplies maintained.
• Keep records of all materials and equipment that enter or leave the facility.
• Unpack and examine incoming shipments, reject damaged items, report shortages and discrepancies, and coordinate with shipper to rectify.
• Receive and process defective items returned for replacement or credit.
• Route checked incoming materials to stockroom or departments.
• Prepare products or materials for shipment.
• Assemble shipping containers and insert items with padding.
• Recommend method of shipment and close and seal packages.
• Affix shipping labels and postage to cartons or containers.
• Post weights and shipping charges.
• Ensure outgoing shipments meet specifications.
• Prepare bills of lading and maintain documentation of goods shipped.
• Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
• Perform computer functions to track goods.
• Collaborate with other departments to rectify shortages and errors.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area.
