As a Shipfitter, you will read blueprints, lay out and assemble steel structures, and ensure tight tolerances before welding. This onsite role offers competitive pay and growth opportunities in a busy shipyard environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of Shipfitter experience in a shipyard environment.
• Strong blueprint and drawing interpretation skills.
• Experience with structural fit-up, alignment, and assembly.
• Familiarity with shipbuilding fabrication tools and equipment.
• Ability to work to tight tolerances and quality standards.
• Previous experience with tack welding and weld preparation.
• Strong understanding of shipyard safety practices.
• Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and correct fabrication issues.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and job specifications.
• Lay out, position, fit, and assemble steel components and ship structures.
• Prepare materials through grinding, straightening, drilling, reaming, deburring, and other techniques.
• Set up and align parts to ensure proper fit and dimensional accuracy.
• Perform tack welding to secure components when required.
• Correct distortions and perform rework to meet tolerances.
• Inspect completed work and verify quality standards.
