Job summary

Bollinger Mississippi Shipbuilding, LLC is seeking a skilled shipfitter to contribute to surface preparation and fabrication within the hull for rivets and welds. Three years minimum experience as Marine Structural or Outfitting Journeyman (1st Class) is required.

Responsibilities include laying out parts from blueprints, aligning components, and performing cutting and welding tasks as needed. The role requires working from blueprints, precise layout skills, and the ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years as Marine Structural or Outfitting Journeyman (1st Class).
  • Knowledge of blueprints and drawings.
  • Experience operating a cutting torch and tack welding is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out positions of parts on metal using a scrib e and hand tools.
  • Locate and mark reference lines on components.
  • Position parts in hull of vessel with assistance.
  • Align parts using jacks, come-a-longs, turnbuckles, clips, wedges and mauls.
  • Mark hole locations and set temporary fasteners for welding or riveting.
  • Tack weld clips and brackets as needed.
  • Cut and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts as required.

Job description

REQUIRED: Three years minimum Marine Structural or Outfitting Journeyman (1st Class) experience.

GENERAL FUNCTION: The shipfitter is responsible for the surface preparation of structural metal components and the lay out and fabrication of metal structural parts within the hull of a vessel for riveting and welding.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Working from blueprints or templates, lays out position of parts on metal using a scribe and hand tools.
  • Locates and marks reference lines.
  • Positions parts in hull of vessel with assistance from a Tacker or Helper.
  • Aligns parts in relation to each other using jacks, come-a-longs, turnbuckles, clips, wedges and mauls.
  • Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding or riveting.
  • May tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
  • May bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, utilizing the above-mentioned equipment.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of blueprints and drawings.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

Prior experience, as a shipfitter is preferred, capable of operating a cutting torch and tack welding.
