Job summary

U.S. Fleet Forces Command seeks a Shipbuilding Specialist in the Waterfront Operations Department. You will manage manufacturing and repair matters for ships and small crafts, and provide cost estimates for new work and changes to specifications.

You will review complex blueprints, track material availability, and ensure compliance with contract requirements. Requires DoD experience and ability to travel for CONUS/OCONUS assignments.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience at GS-9 or equivalent in DoD, private or public sector.
• Experience planning and answering inspection deficiency reports with contractors.
• Experience monitoring contractor compliance and progress relative to contracts.

Job description

Summary

You will serve as a Shipbuilding Specialist in the Waterfront Operations Department (WFO) Small Craft and IDIQ Division of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.

Duties

• You will resolve matters pertaining to the manufacturing and repair processes of ships.
• You will provide detailed cost estimates for new work projects and modifications to original work specifications.
• You will utilize a comprehensive knowledge of shipbuilding methods, practices, techniques and management control systems for overhauling, repairing and testing surface ships and small crafts.
• You will review blueprints and specifications for comprehension and dissemination.
• You will maintain material control and investigate availability of material and time for contracted projects.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
• You will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding.
• You will be required to work in confined spaces.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Experience serving as a liaison between the contractor and technical authorities by planning and answering inspection deficiency reports.
• Experience monitoring contractor's technical compliance and progress relative to assigned contract/orders.
• Experience accepting or rejecting testing of ships systems utilizing contracting methods and contract types relating to the performance of pre-award, post-award and/or contract price/cost analyst functions.
• Experience coordinating on-site reviews for the evaluation of personnel protection/prevention and safety programs for compliance with appropriate procedures, contracts and specifications
