Job description

Overview

VTG is seeking a Shipboard Surface Engineering Subject Matter Expert with proven ship systems and modernization expertise. The SME will provide dedicated, timely professional support services to the Flag Officer, Executive Director, and Chief of Staff for the Director, Surface Ship Maintenance, Modernization & Sustainment (SEA 21). Position will be onsite at the Washington Navy Yard (WNY).

What will you do?
  1. The Surface Engineering SME will provide dedicated, timely professional support services to the Flag Officer, Executive Director, and Chief of Staff for the Director, Surface Ship Maintenance, Modernization & Sustainment (SEA 21).
  2. Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives to define and assess SEA 21 processes, data, metrics, and resources related to surface ship systems and modernization planning, execution, and oversight, including surface ship marine engineering, maintenance, and repair of propulsion, electrical, and auxiliary machinery systems.
  3. Develop and implement strategic initiatives focusing on improved business practices, data utilization, work package definition, engineering, planning, messaging, tasker responses, and program execution processes.
  4. Respond proactively and reactively to short and long-term taskings from SEA 21 leadership, coordinating with stakeholders to deliver high-quality, timely products such as communication strategies, briefs, point papers, and analysis.
  5. Provide analytical support including Flag-level strategy planning, communication approaches, brief development, knowledge management, and process improvement.
Do you have what it takes?

Required Skills:

  1. 15 years of direct experience in U.S Navy ship maintenance, repair, and modernization, including availability planning and execution, management, and assessment.
  2. Experience as Surface Engineering and Repair Limited Duty Officer Subject Matter Expert (SME) with proven ship systems and modernization expertise.
  3. Proficiency in MS Office Suite - PowerPoint, Word, Access, and Excel.
  4. Bachelor's Degree or 5+ years of relevant experience. Excellent communication and management skills.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with senior military leadership (e.g., Flag level).
  6. Proactive, customer-focused, with management experience.
  7. Creative, poised, and flexible in supporting TSFO leadership.
  8. Active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to maintain it.
  9. Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills for planning and knowledge management.

Preferred Skills:

  1. SharePoint Knowledge Management experience is a plus.
Pay Range

VTG's estimated starting pay range is $110,000 - $200,000 annually, based on geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG considers experience, education, skills, market factors, and contractual requirements, which may result in offers outside this range.
