Job summary

Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia seeks a Shipboard Maintenance Technician to perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and safety tasks aboard the museum's historic ships, ensuring vessels are clean, presentable, and safe for visitors.

Under the Preservation and Maintenance Manager, you will assist with painting, minor repairs, equipment cleaning, and planned preventive maintenance, while following established safety procedures and using PPE.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant work experience may be considered.
• At least 1 year of prior general maintenance experience, including painting and upkeep.
• Ability to safely use hand and power tools and follow safety procedures.
• Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around water.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning and housekeeping aboard the museum's historic ships.
• Carry out regular shipboard cleaning: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and related duties.
• Perform routine maintenance: painting, minor repairs, equipment cleaning, and general upkeep.
• Assist with snow/ice removal, safety patrols, and seasonal maintenance needs.
• Safely handle artifacts and assist with preservation activities per procedures.
• Document maintenance work and participate in planned preventive programs.
