Job summary

Independence Seaport Museum seeks a Shipboard Maintenance Technician to support two historic ships, USS Olympia and USS Becuna. You will perform housekeeping, routine maintenance, painting, and repair tasks to keep vessels clean, safe, and presentable for visitors.

Under the Shipboard Preservation and Maintenance Manager, you will assist with planned maintenance cycles, safety procedures, and artifact care, ensuring high stewardship standards and a premier guest experience aboard the ships.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant work experience may substitute education.
• At least 1 year of prior experience performing general maintenance tasks, including painting and routine upkeep.
• Ability to safely and accurately use a variety of hand and power tools used in facility and ship maintenance and repair.
• Ability to follow established safety procedures.
• Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and on or around the water.
• Comfortable around potentially hazardous materials while using PPE.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning, housekeeping, and maintenance aboard the museum's historic ships.
• Conduct regular shipboard cleaning and care, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and other duties.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, including painting, minor repairs, machine cleaning, and general ship upkeep.
• Assist with snow and ice removal, safety patrols, and seasonal maintenance needs.
• Safely handle artifacts and assist with artifact care and preservation activities per museum procedures.
• Participate in planned maintenance programs and assist with emergent repairs and operational needs.
