Job summary

The Independence Seaport Museum is seeking a part-time Facilities Assistant to support cleaning and basic maintenance on weekends. Up to 28 hours per week, with duties including cleaning facilities, trash disposal, and assisting with repairs and event setup.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in custodial department of large building or museum preferred.
• Good communication skills needed
• Must be flexible, neat appearance and ability to work effectively in the museum environment
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled cleaning of Museum facilities, including rest rooms, exhibits, floor and carpet care, etc.
• Collection and disposal of trash.
• Assist other maintenance staff with routine and special repairs and projects, moving and setup of furniture, exhibits, etc.
• Undertake or assist with periodic maintenance such as painting, floor stripping and waxing, snow removal, etc.
• Perform event set up and cleaning before and after Museum events.
• Ensure safety throughout the facility for the public, staff, and especially maintenance personnel.
• Includes understanding the use of maintenance chemicals, and awareness of visitor safety issues at all times.
• Other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned by supervisor.
