Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com is seeking skilled metal workers for shipboard fabrication and assembly. You will lay out from blueprints, cut and weld structural parts, and operate high-reach equipment to install foundations and members on vessels.

Qualifications include two years on-the-job experience, blueprint reading, ship terminology, and a T-1 FCAW welding certificate (SMAW preferred). Must pass a hands-on assessment and work safely at heights and in confined spaces.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of on the job experience.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading, ship terminology and different metals required.
• T-1 welding certificate for FCAW; SMAW optional but recommended.
• Ability to pass hands-on assessment test.
• Must work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any shift.
• Must comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Lay out work from blueprint.
• Cut, burn, grind, and fit metal structural parts for placement on ship.
• Tack and weld foundation and structural members.
• Operate high reaching equipment (condors, sky climbers, scissors lift).
• Set up tools and equipment at job site; clean up and remove scrap.
• Operate overhead cranes and use rigging equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
