In this role, you will perform high-quality welding and metal fabrication on hull structures, deck plating, bulkheads, and framing. You must be proficient in multi-pass welding techniques across various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) and capable of working in fast-paced shipyard, shop, and shipboard environments while strictly adhering to ABS and USCG standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparation & Fitting: Cut, bevel, gouge (air-carbon arc), grind, and align heavy metal plates and structural shapes according to engineering drawings and technical specs.
  • Quality & Testing: Ensure all welds meet visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) criteria (e.g., VT, MT, PT, UT/RT requirements) free of defects such as porosity, lack of fusion, or undercut.
  • Safety & Confined Space: Comply with shipyard safety rules, hot-work permits, and safe entry procedures in tight or confined shipboard spaces, working alongside Competent Persons (CP) and Marine Chemists.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements: Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, on scaffolding, and lift up to 50 lbs in varying weather conditions.

Certifications: Current or prior AWS/ABS structural welding certifications (e.g., 3G/4G or 6G preferred for FCAW/SMAW).

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of structural welding experience in a shipyard, marine repair facility, or heavy industrial setting.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in reading blueprints, structural drawings, weld symbols, and layout schematics.
