Job summary

CoreCivic is seeking a Shift Supervisor to provide responsible supervision of administrative and operational security activities in a secure facility. The role leads security staff on a specific shift and oversees inmates/residents to ensure high-quality care and safety for the public and staff.

The Shift Supervisor directly oversees operations, ensures staffing coverage, and participates in recruitment and staff development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years in a criminal justice field, including two years in a supervisory role.
• Additional education may substitute for experience.
• Completion of basic pre-service correctional officer training and, where applicable, a commissioned security officer license.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Knowledge of correctional facility management and related laws and regulations.
• Minimum age 18.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise and manage security staff and inmates on the shift.
• Provide for adequate staffing in areas supervised; fill in as needed during periods of short staffing.
• Engage and participate in recruiting, hiring, orientating staff, and other staffing needs in areas supervised.
• Make recommendations concerning personnel matters and assist in the effective management of facility resources.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent is required.
• Three years experience in a criminal justice field or other acceptable related field, which includes two years in a supervisory capacity.
• Additional education may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Completion of basic pre-service correctional officer training and, where applicable, be a commissioned security officer licensed by the state of employment.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of the practices and principles of correctional facility management; pertinent corrections laws, rules and regulations; and the principles and practices of supervision and training.
• Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
