Job summary

Smurfit Westrock seeks a Kraft Process Shift Supervisor for Fernandina Beach Mill. You will lead the Kraft back-end process, oversee safety, quality, production, costs, and environmental controls while managing ~20 operators.

Responsibilities include prioritizing maintenance, responding to emergencies, and coordinating grade changes to balance Utilities, Power, Liquor, and Machine areas. Strong safety and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, or chemical engineering or equivalent industrial paper manufacturing experience.
• 10+ years’ experience in a Kraft Pulp and Paper Mill, or equivalent technical and educational background, preferred.
• Solid knowledge of power, recovery, caustic, pulp mill and woodyard processes.

Responsibilities

• Leads safety efforts on shift to prevent injuries and ensure compliance.
• Implements improvement initiatives and corrects unsafe conditions on shift.
• Supervises approximately 20 operators and coaches staff for reliable performance.
• Sets production rates and coordinates grade changes to optimize profitability.
• Maintains quality and environmental parameters within limits.
• Ensures required testing occurs on schedule for quality control.
• Completes daily reports with changes useful to supervisors.
• Ensures compliance with regulations and WestRock’s ethics standards.

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the back-end Kraft process – including safety, quality, production, costs, environmental control and employee relations. Areas of responsibility include Power and Recovery, Caustic, Pulp Mill and the Woodyard. Also has mill-wide responsibilities for prioritizing shift maintenance and responding to emergencies.

• Leads safety efforts on shift to prevent injuries, eliminate hazards, improve housekeeping and comply with all applicable regulations and mill policies
• Implements improvement initiatives, corrects unsafe conditions and responds to safety concerns to ensure a safe and healthy working environment
• Supervises approximately 20 operators on shift and manages employee performance and promotes teamwork by providing appropriate coaching and training to ensure reliable performance and compliance with environmental, safety and quality requirements
• Sets production rates and coordinates/directs grade changes to optimize profitability minimize downtime, and balance conditions in Utilities, Power, Liquor, and Machine areas
• Maintains quality and environmental parameters within prescribed limits, basing decisions on operating conditions and trends
• Ensures that required testing occurs on schedule and in an appropriate manner
• Completes daily report incorporating all operating and equipment changes that will be useful to other supervisors and shift personnel in the department
• Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies and WestRock’s Standard of Ethics and Code of Corporate Conduct
