Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Shift Supervisor to lead safety-driven production in our paper mill. You will oversee crews, enforce policies, and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency.
The role requires a proven safety record, strong analytical and leadership skills, and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Paper Science or Mechanical) with 3+ years supervisory experience in the pulp and paper industry. Salary range reflects varied locations.

Responsible for all aspects of crew safety, including training and adherence to policies and procedures. Must have courage to intervene and stop activities that are, or appear, unsafe.
Includes periodic inspections of all area equipment, housekeeping of facilities, and includes the writing of work orders when deficiencies are observed.
Continually assess the performance, productivity, skill, and weaknesses of the crews. Recommend and initiate solutions for continuous improvement.
Coordination of department production activities, using discretion and decision-making skills, to meet Company and Department goals. Work with Area Management and Operators to efficiently optimize department productivity and uptime.
Assist operating crew with problem solving needs.
Coordination with paper mill maintenance and shutdown activities.
Place priorities on maintenance work on shift and oversee the completion of work. This could include discretionary decisions about parts, materials, and personnel with respect to the spending of company monies.
Monitor work in progress of operating crews, and their completed work, to ensure that quality standards are met within the prescribe time frame.
Direct supervision of bargaining unit employees in the paper mill. This includes, but is not limited to, initiating corrective action and commendations.
Understand and follow the Bargaining Agreement and the Seniority Work Rules as they relate to personnel coordination.
Support department by engaging and participating in team meetings.
A work history which demonstrates a proven commitment to safety is required.
Strong analytical, trouble shooting and decision-making skills.
Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize, maintain attention to detail and recognize time constraints as related to production optimization.
Team player with a positive attitude that will continuously pursue strategies to ensure safety and quality and build rapport with the crews. The desire to teach, coach, mentor and promote the success of a dynamic, goal oriented and fast paced environment.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Paper Science or Mechanical) is preferred.
A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in the pulp and paper industry.
Pay range: $82,500 – $137,500 DOE
Bonus/Commission Eligible: Yearly Short-Term Incentive Program (STIP) Bonus based off metrics

The salary range for this position is $82,500.00 - $137,500.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The range listed is also the expected pay for roles in Illinois and Colorado. The benefits for this role include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 15 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your pay will be based on factors such as your skills, experience, and education.
