Job summary

CMC provides growth opportunities in the steel reinforcement and construction industries. The Melt Shop Operator role involves training across Furnace, Ladle Furnace, Casting Machine, and Refractories, with emphasis on safety and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

You will inspect areas for hazards, assist multiple operators, and ensure smooth startup and shutdown procedures while adhering to PPE and safety rules daily.

Qualifications

  • Teamwork in a fast-paced environment with strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn quickly and multitask in a manufacturing setting.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in variable conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Train across Melt Shop areas including Furnace, Ladle Furnace, Casting Machine, and Refractories.
  • Visually inspect furnace areas from pulpit for hazards and issues.
  • Assist others as needed (crane operator, ladle operator).
  • Follow safety rules, wear PPE, and maintain safe procedures at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions promptly and communicate production concerns clearly.
  • Complete equipment inspection reports each shift and maintain housekeeping.
  • Understand start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.

What You'll Do
  • Train in all areas of the Melt Shop to include Furnace, Ladle Furnace, Casting Machine, and Refractories
  • Visually check from pulpit the furnace and other Melt Shop areas for possible problems and unsafe conditions
  • Assist others when needed or requested (ladle furnace operator, crane operator, etc)
  • Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by following safety rules and regulations at all times including proper wearing of company PPE
  • Be alert of unsafe conditions at all times and report them immediately
  • Effectively communicate with others about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Ensure equipment inspection reports are filled out each shift
  • Responsible for daily housekeeping duties including but not limited to immediate work area
  • Understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures
What You'll Need
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with excellent strong work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with exposure to extremes in temperature, chemical, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
  • Basic computer skills
  • Dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs
  • Must be able to learn quickly and multitask
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Some overtime will be required
  • Work on a rotating shift which may include weekends and holidays
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
