Job summary

Printpack Inc is seeking a Shift Supervisor to lead the Converting Department, guide a team of production associates, and uphold Printpack’s standards and core values. You will drive safety, quality, and efficiency on a 12-hour shift, coordinating with other shifts to meet daily goals.

The role requires hands-on leadership in a fast-paced plant environment, with a focus on coaching, training, and process improvement to protect people and products while ensuring on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma OR Equivalent Experience; Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience preferred.
  • Production experience in manufacturing environment with understanding of production processes.
  • Hands-on supervisory experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment; able to manage people and provide feedback.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance; able to conduct safety meetings and investigations.
  • Strong communication and cross-shift coordination skills; able to mentor teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day Converting Department operations, directing 10+ associates.
  • Enforce safety policies; lead safety meetings and audits.
  • Monitor quality; ensure products meet customer specifications.

Job description

The Shift Supervisor role is a critical leadership position responsible for leading day-to-day Converting Department operations while serving as both a culture carrier and standards guardian. This leader ensures customer requirements are safely met through effective management of 10+ production associates across multiple production assets daily. Beyond operational execution, this Shift Supervisor requires embodying and championing Printpack's Core Values while maintaining unwavering adherence to Printpack’s Expectations of Leaders that protect our people, products, and reputation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety Leadership and Compliance - Enforce OSHA and company safety policies, lead monthly safety meetings, conduct safety audits, and investigate incidents while maintaining clean and safe working environment
  • Quality Assurance and Control - Monitor production activities with focus on quality standards, ensure products meet customer specifications, and implement measures to prevent customer complaints
  • Shift Operations Management - Manage assigned shift by providing direction, coaching, and performance feedback to associates to ensure achievement of plant goals in safety, waste, quality, and productivity
  • Team Development and Performance Management - Evaluate team performance, provide regular feedback, complete performance reviews, and identify training needs while coaching and mentoring associates
  • Production Planning and Execution - Communicate daily production goals, document results, resolve production issues efficiently, and ensure on-time delivery of quality products
  • Administrative Coordination - Manage time and absence reporting, attendance monitoring, vacation planning, and overtime while maintaining accurate documentation
  • Cross-Shift Communication - Promote a team-oriented environment, facilitate communication between associates and management, and coordinate with other shifts for operational consistency
  • Cost Control and Efficiency - Control operating costs, perform job checkouts, make quality decisions, and implement process improvements to enhance productivity
  • Training and Development - Ensure proper training on safety, quality, and production procedures while documenting training activities and identifying development opportunities
  • Plant Initiative Leadership - Oversee implementation of plant initiatives including 5S, PPS, Food Safety, and continuous improvement programs during shift operations
  • Continuous Improvement - Lead kaizen events and continuous improvement projects, standardize work processes and document best practices
Preferred Education/Experience:

High School diploma OR Equivalent Experience Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience preferred

Required Skills:
  • Production Experience - Proven background in manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability to manage responsibilities and understand production processes effectively
  • Supervisory and Leadership Experience - Hands-on supervisory experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with the ability to manage people, provide performance feedback, and maintain high team morale
  • Training & Coaching Development - Capability to train, coach, and mentor team members while building organizational capability in process optimization and operational excellence
  • Safety and Compliance Knowledge - Understanding of OSHA regulations, safety protocols, and ability to enforce compliance while conducting safety meetings and incident investigations
  • Organizational and Multi-Tasking Abilities - Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple objectives simultaneously, prioritize competing demands, and coordinate administrative functions effectively
  • Technical Manufacturing Skills - Strong technical skills in flexible packaging processes with flexographic printing, laminating, slitting, or press operator experience preferred
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills - Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for effective interaction with associates at all organizational levels and cross-shift coordination
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making - Proven ability to identify and resolve production issues efficiently, make quality decisions under pressure, and implement corrective actions
  • Performance Management Experience - Demonstrated capability to conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and mentoring, and manage disciplinary actions while maintaining fairness
  • Change Management and Adaptability - Ability to manage organizational change, adapt to evolving operational requirements, and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Computer and Software Proficiency - Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) with PRISM knowledge and manufacturing ERP system experience preferred
  • Shift Work Flexibility - Willingness and ability to work 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and varying schedules as operational needs require
  • Cost Control and Process Improvement - Skills in controlling operating costs, identifying efficiency opportunities, and implementing measures to improve production methods and quality standards
  • Business Acumen - Understanding of cost drivers and financial impact of operational decisions
Work Conditions:

The majority of tasks will be performed primarily in an office environment with regular plant floor exposure Manufacturing/warehouse environment with exposure to industrial equipment and processes Typically Monday-Friday with flexibility required to support operational needs; may include early morning, evening, or weekend hours during peak periods Occasional exposure to chemicals, noise, and temperature variations Fast-paced environment requiring quick decision-making and problem resolution Exposure to Noise levels above 85 dB Potential exposure to Solvents, fumes and inks within the plant.
