Job summary

Carroll Independent Fuel Company is seeking a Shift Leader to support Store 54 - Millersville, MD 21108 in day-to-day operations, staff development, and cost control. You will help drive high food quality, customer service, and store profitability while upholding brand standards.

The role focuses on leading by example to ensure excellent customer experiences, supervising staff, and maintaining store standards in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of store training.
• Previous experience supervising others preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Computer literacy required.
• Food service experience preferred, managerial is a plus.
• ServSafe certification preferred or obtained within 2 months.
• Strong customer service and teamwork focus.
• Effective communication with staff, customers, and vendors.
• Reliable, ethical, and respectful.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Reliable transportation.
• Willing to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards for food quality, customer service, food safety, and store cleanliness by empowering staff.
• Provide superior customer service: greet, assist, upsell, and thank customers.
• Assist with hiring, training, and development of store employees.
• Motivate and lead Customer Service Representatives; delegate tasks and follow up.
• Complete daily paperwork and computer entry timely.
• Handle special assignments and projects as needed.

The Shift Leader (SL) is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in the day-to-day store operations and is a key partner in meeting performance and profit goals while ensuring customer and employee satisfaction, brand standards and store profitability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and drive high standards and expectations around food quality, customer service, food safety and store cleanliness by empowering store employees.
• Provide superior customer service to all customers: greeting, assisting, suggest selling and thanking each customer.
• Assist with the hiring, training, and development of store employees.
• Motivate, encourage, and challenge Customer Service Representatives by leading by example to ensure all daily tasks are completed in the store. Appropriately delegate tasks to Customer Service Representatives and follow-up as necessary.
• Complete daily paperwork and computer entry in a timely manner as established by management.
• Assume responsibility for special assignments and projects as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of store training.
• Previous experience supervising others, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Computer literacy.
• Food service experience preferred, ideally in a managerial role.
• ServSafe certification preferred or successful completion of certification within 2 months of hire.
• Focus on customer service and commitment to teamwork.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate with employees, customers, and vendors.
• Ethical, honest, trustworthy, respectful, compassionate, supportive, and patient.
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays as needed by the business, as well as work the site alone, as required.

Working Conditions

• Retail environment with occasional exposure to working conditions including dust, extreme temperatures, and potential contact with petroleum and/or cleaning products, etc.
• Spend much of the shift standing with frequent bending and lifting.
• In inclement weather conditions, employees may be expected to assist with efforts to maintain full store operations.
